NOTE:

this pattern is for a single colour yarn. The object is to use up smaller quantities of yarn you have in your stash. Mix fibres, but keep the overall yarn weight consistent.

To make Aran weight out of other yarns weight, you can combine DK with 4-ply or use 3 strands of 4-ply, however, if you’re new to short rows, try to avoid using multiple strands on the heel, as this may complicate picking up the wraps.

Various types of Aran wool, weighed and divided.

Most of the wool is recycled.

An alternative to Aran is to use DK yarn with either lace weight or 4ply. Here I've used a golden yellow aran for the trim and three, random balls of DK, (two, mismatched, off-white, one grey) worked together throughout with a grey, variegated lace weight yarn.
